Brad Fravel, Ph.D.
Brad Fravel is Director of Business Development at Virginia Tech. As a seasoned business development professional, Fravel is responsible for identifying and creating strategic, long-term collaborations with the private sector to advance innovation, improve communities, and strengthen tomorrow’s workforce. Fravel came to Virginia Tech from Indiana University where he was IU’s first Executive Director, Corporate Relations. In his five years in this role, he worked with university leadership, faculty, and external partners to maximize corporate engagement and support for the university across ten IU campuses. Prior to this, Fravel was Business Development Manager and Faculty-Corporate Liaison at Indiana University’s Research & Technology Corporation, where he managed intellectual property, assisted faculty entrepreneurs, and accelerated the commercialization of IU discoveries. Having held positions as an industry scientist, an academic professor, an international consultant, and a technology transfer professional, he understands the benefits of strong relationships between faculty researchers and the private sector. He currently serves on the business advisory boards of two biomedical technology startups. Dr. Fravel earned a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry from Indiana University. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University and an M.B.A. from Butler University, Lacy School of Business.
